SMALL FIRE INVOLVING A HAZARDOUS MATERIAL AT MANUFACTURING PLANT ON HOWARD ST, NILES

Activated fire alarm with a small fire. E3 on arrival reported nothing showing with staff reporting smoke in a maintenance room. BC2 reports a small fire involving a hazardous material was extinguished. The hazard is categorized as internal, and apparently does not involve any outdoor release. Squad 4 request by 12:41 p.m.

Possibly a phosphine gas spill or contamination occurred inside the building. Phosphine (PH₃) is a colorless, flammable, and explosive gas at room temperature that smells like garlic or decaying fish. Hazmat De-Con is ongoing in a small area. Several ambulances were on scene, but no injuries were reported or confirmed.
